Dr. Christopher Winter has practiced sleep medicine and neurology in Charlottesville, Virginia since 2004, but has been involved with sleep medicine and sleep research since 1993. Currently he is the owner of Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine clinic and CNSM Consulting and previously the Medical Director of the Martha Jefferson Hospital Sleep Medicine Center, a sleep center he helped establish in 2004. He is the author of The Sleep Solution and The Rested Child, as well as the host of the podcast Sleep Unplugged.
Dr. Winter’s current research focuses on sleep and athletic performance. In 2006, Major League Baseball awarded him a grant to study the effect of scheduling and time zone travel on team performance. In the winter of 2008, he was an invited lecturer at the MLB winter meetings in Las Vegas, NV. He has served as a consultant for several baseball teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago White Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates. In addition to MLB teams, he has worked with the Chicago Bulls and is currently the sleep medicine specialist for NBA teams including the Oklahoma City Thunder, Indiana Pacers, and Washington Wizards, as well as the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. Within the NHL, he has consulted with the Washington Capitals, the New York Rangers, and the Florida Panthers. He has served with the NFL's Chicago Bears and the Baltimore Ravens. In addition to professional athletes, Dr. Winter has studied the sleeping characteristics of 560 Division I-A college football players, and works with several collegiate teams to help optimize their sleep. Dr. Winter also consults with the United States Women's soccer team. His expertise in sleep as it relates to health and fitness led to Dr. Winter being named to the Men’s Health Magazine Health Advisory Board. He regularly appears on Fox News Channel as a sleep and neurology expert and regularly answers readers’ questions about sleep and contributes to its articles as well as articles in Women’s Health, Runner’s World, and Details. He’s also written articles for other magazines including Triathlete and writes a blog entitled Sleeping Around for the Huffington Post. His debut book, The Sleep Solution, Why Your Sleep Is Broken and How To Fix It was an Amazon best seller. His latest book The Rested Child: Why Your Tired, Wired, or Irritable Child May Have a Sleep Disorder--And How to Help is available everywhere books are sold.

He completed his neurology residency at the University of Virginia and as Chief Resident, won a national American Academy of Neurology Teaching Award. He completed his Sleep Medicine fellowship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The recipient of research awards from the Sleep Medicine Society and the Associated Professional Sleep Societies, Dr. Winter has authored numerous scientific papers and abstracts dealing with sleep and has been a presenter at many international sleep meetings. Dr. Winter is board certified in sleep medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and formerly by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (he has elected to not renew this certification because of issues he has with their renewal process and fees). He is also board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He enjoys not only studying athletics, but is an occasional triathlete himself.

Marissa Kile is our practice office manager who handles most of the front office work including insurance authorizations and scheduling patients. Marissa has been in the medical field for over 20 years adding a broad wealth of knowledge and expertise to our practice. She brings a positive attitude which our team appreciates. Perri Rush-Brown is the practice's chief financial officer as well as assistant office manager. Perri brings a wealth of experience to the practice having worked for both Matha Jefferson Hospital as well as the Charlottesville Free Clinic.
